The Idjits At Star Wars Galaxies

Star Wars GalaxiesMuch to my surprise, I received a threat from Sony Online Entertainment today. I haven’t had an account on either Star Wars Galaxies or Everquest II in ages, so why they’re still trying to piss me off is beyond me. But we’re talking about Sony here. They hated me when I was giving them money. I don’t know why it should be any different now. Anyway, here’s what they said;

House/Structure Pack-Up Notification for Inactive Accounts:

Effective March 3, 2009, at 4:00 AM PST your in-game player owned properties including Houses, Guild Halls, Theaters, Hospitals, Cloning Facilities, Merchant Tents and Factories may be Packed-up, removed from the game server(s) and placed in your datapad.

Dear Former Star Wars Galaxies Citizens,

Time is running out for you to rejoin the epic adventure that is Star Wars Galaxies and reclaim your houses, structures, real estate and game assets before they are packed up and removed from the game servers.  Come back to Star Wars Galaxies today!

On March 3rd, we may pack up and remove items attached to Star Wars Galaxies accounts that have been inactive (an account that has not been logged into and had an active, paying, and valid subscription) since July 1, 2008.  If your service has been inactive since July 1, 2008, and you do not validly re-subscribe prior to February 15, 2009, your houses, structures and associated assets may be packed up into your datapad and removed from the game servers at 4:00 AM PST on March 3, 2009.  Should you decide to return to Star Wars Galaxies after that date, you will have to place these items back into the game world.

We are offering you an opportunity to come back for free for a limited time.  Your account has been automatically re-activated through February 15, 2009 at 11:59 PM PST; simply log in to take advantage of this offer*.

Hoth, The Meatlump King, Exar Kun and Darth Vader are all waiting for you…

May the Force be with you!

– The Star Wars Galaxies Team!

Idjits. They were making an easy $20 a month off of me and I wasn’t even playing the damned game anymore. I kept paying on the account so that I wouldn’t lose my character. Then someone at Sony had the great idea of forcing players to play by threatening to delete their homes and items if they hadn’t played in 30 days. That sort of ticked me off, so I canceled my account and effectively told Sony Online Entertainment to kiss my white fuzzy butt.
It’s kind of funny that they’re telling me that if I don’t come back, they’re really going to do away with my stuff this time. What a bunch of morons. With Star Wars Galaxies, Sony had what was probably the best MMORPG out there, but they bullied their customers until people started leaving. Then they completely changed the game; not once, but twice, making it worse each time. I don’t think there’s ever been a company that was so ham-fisted in the way it dealt with its customers as Sony in dealing with people who played SWG.
Fine. Delete the house. Ya fucking morons. I figured you’d already done that anyway, from the last time you threatened to do away with all my stuff. I hate to break it to you, but you dipshits got $20 a month for me for well over a year for a game I wasn’t even playing, and now you think you can bully me into coming back and visiting that wreck of a game?
I tell you what. Re-set the game to what it was before the infamous Combat Upgrade and I’ll think about coming back. Until then, enjoy your empty cities.
