2004: Robelli fretless bass
This was the third and last of my Carlo Robelli basses. To be honest, I bought it because it was so damned cheap. $150. I'd always kind of wanted a fretless bass, but I hadn't wanted it bad enough to actually buy one. But at this price, how could I resist? There's just something about the sound of a fretless. Anyone's who's ever heard Hey You by Pink Floyd can identify the sound of the fretless in the opening passages. Of course, anyone who listens to jazz or knows who Jaco Pastorius is needs no introduction. I suppose in the end, I bought this bass because I could. I'm sure I'll use it at some point. It has a good sound. Hell, it has an excellent sound for what I paid for it. I'll just have to figure out a way to use a fretless, because to my mind I don't have any songs that just scream for a fretless bass. |
