2005: Epes Transport

After Hurricane Katrina, I was done with U.S. Xpress. They'd made me sit on a load of water for three and a half weeks without drawing a paycheck, damned near bankrupting our household. Not to mention the stress of being stuck in a truck without moving for three and a half weeks (it was almost like being buried alive).

I was done. Not only did I need some time out of the truck, but when U.S. Xpress hemmed and hawed and gave me the runaround for a couple of more weeks about paying me the money they owed me for sitting, I was disgusted with the company.

Of course, my thoughts immediately went to Epes Transport. I'd worked there before, if only for a few months. And though I hadn't made much money, at that point I just didn't care. I was burned out from the road and the idea of being home every weekend (one of Epes' selling points) appealed to me.

I worked for Epes until 2007, and I had a reasonably good experience there. Anyone who has read my blog will know that in the end I had problems with my dispatcher, but I didn't leave feel the same kind of simmering resentment against Epes that I did U.S. Xpress.
