Letters From My Christian Friends

The letters collected here were received at some point from one disgruntled Christian or another. They were sent to various web sites that I’ve been involved in, but I’ve always considered that they were being sent to me, given the fact that I was the one who was responsible for the web sites and content which these people found objectionable. I thought you might enjoy knowing the Christian reaction to a rather modest collection of Pagan-themed web pages.

I’ve left out the e-mail addresses. I certainly don’t want to be the reason anyone gets a ton of mail in their mailbox, just because of an expressed opinion. The signatures, however, have been left intact (when the letters were signed).

I’ve been continually and consistently amazed at the reactions I’ve received from Christians through the years. After all, my first web site began was just a collection of Pagan links. It was not an anti-Christian organization, nor was it preaching any sort of anti-Christian rhetoric. None of my subsequent web sites could have been seen in that light, either. I’ve oftened wondered if just the fact that we (Pagans) are living at all is unacceptable to them.

You may notice that the letters mostly stop after late 1999. I’ve wondered about that. I’m of the opinion that after the 2000 celebrations came and went with no End Times forthcoming, they found something else to be pissed off about. From what I’ve seen since, I think that’s mostly politics. Their political views have become their religion, and those godless Liberals make far jucier targets that a bored and mostly confused Pagan. That’s my theory, at least.

Oh, I still get the occasional letter from the nutjob, but rarely of the kind which I have so often responded to here. I’ve lost a couple of letters (which were well-wishes and apologies, but which I wanted to post). I really don’t know why the volume of rhetoric died down. Maybe someone noticed that I was posting them and thought better of sending me more hate mail. Mostly, though, I think it’s because I don’t really have a web site that deals with Paganism anymore. Well, except for PaganCentric, but that’s a web site stocked with fictional characters.

Whatever the reason, it’s nice to be largely free of some of the filth which various Christians used to write to me. But I have to admit that the silence makes me somewhat nervous. What exactly are they up to?
