I’ve finally begun work on the Blood & Chartreuse album. The ideas have been piling up, but it was all set aside as I worked on the novel. Now that things are shaping up with the writing, I’ve decided it’s time to get the album nailed down, as well. I’d like to have it completed and ready to go by the time the novel is published (hopefully later this year).
The image I included as part of the headline is rather misleading, but it fits in with the popular imagery of …
Rants and ruminations particular to music in general, my stuff in particular, and the various shows and people I work with.
Some go better than others. Some are noteworthy and others are forgettable. And Some you just want to brag about.
Lyrics and audio samples of new songs are added as they’re written, and are posted beside the Oldies in the songs lists.
Okay, so now that you know you’ve been scammed, suffice it to say that I was in the audience and Walter Trout was on-stage, but it was at the Clearwater Sea Blues Festival, and my band, Catdaddy Pirates, was in the third row. Check it out, and see if you can spot my hat (and my shaggy mane). I’m the big guy with long hair and a blue t-shirt, sporting the coolest hat in the crowd.
Hoping to do some final mixes on “Mustang Sally” today. I worked on it all day yesterday and got it pretty close to what I wanted. Right now it just needs some final tweaking. Vocals are too loud, rhythm guitar is too low, and the lead guitar needs to be a hair louder. But all in all, I’m very, very happy with the mix that I got.
As with nearly every song I mix down, I’ve learned some new tricks while mixing the songs Catdaddy Pirates recorded. Most important of them …
I finished a mix of Catdaddy Pirates’ version of ZZ Top’s “Tush” on our ReverbNation and MySpace pages. It’s one of seven that we recorded last week, and hope to have completed and online by the end of this week. The general plan is to use this to get some gigs, by having a demo CD that we can peddle to area venues.
I have issues with my vocal performance, and will probably re-mix the song a few times before I’m finally happy with it, but overall I’m rather pleased by …
We had a good rehearsal last night at Market On 7th, firing up the band as a 3-piece for the first time. We cut it a little short because J. C.’s arm was hurting (against his wishes), but it seemed better to call it than to exacerbate a problem. We’ll need J. C. in fighting form for the paying gigs we’ll hopefully be setting up in the next couple of weeks.
I’m having a great time with these guys. We’re doing a lot of songs that I’ve always wanted to do. We’re playing …
We sort of named the band last night. I was more surprised than anyone when we settled on “Catdaddy Pirates”. I’d suggested the name before, and always thought it was a fun name that we could do a lot with, but I didn’t have the impression that anyone but me liked it. But while we were kicking some things around last night, someone mentioned that they liked “Catdaddy Pirates”, and everyone else pretty much agreed. So it’s now our name.
I’ve already put up a web site at catdaddypirates.com, as well …
