DUNGEON KEEPER 2

I picked this game up in a bargain bin at some Wal-Mart somewhere. Quite honestly, the chica in the vinyl caught my attention. I’d never heard of the game, but it was cheap, so I bought it.

To this day, this is one of my favorite games. I’ve installed, played and un-installed dozens of games. Wolfenstein 3D. Doom 3. Bloodrayne 2. Medal of Honor. It’s a long list. They’ve all come and gone. But I still have Dungeon Keeper 2 on my laptop computer.

The gist of the game is that you are a bad guy. You’re a dungeon keeper, and your job is to build your dungeon and attract creatures who you will then use to achieve various aims. It’s a simple premise, and it’s incredibly addictive.

There’s a lot of humor in this game, too. Not jokes, exactly. But I still find myself making the sounds of some of the creatures in the game. And whenever I hear the song Disco Inferno, I hear the game’s voice-over saying “Jackpot winner!” and remember centering the screen to watch the creatures dancing in the casino.

Dungeon Keeper 2 is one of those games that should be regarded as a classic, but which few people have ever heard of. It’s still a favorite of mine.
