About to take a shower. We’ll soon be going to a car show called Mazdapalooza. Katie has entered her car, which she’s put in a whole hell of a lot of work on. Being the old curmudgeon that I am, my first thought was “how much do you get if you win?” But I don’t think there’s money involved. My second thought was to wonder how people could get so excited about Mazdas. But I wisely keep that to myself.
Believe it or not, I get do get it. For Katie it’s about hanging with her friends and taking pride in her car. It’s something Katie love to do. Yup. I get it. I’m looking forward to checking it out.
At first I didn’t think I was going. For some reason I thought Victoria’s friend, Jennifer, was coming over to go with us. I thought maybe they could use a little friend time without me lingering around and screwing up the dynamic. Not that my motives were so unselfish. I thought maybe I’d stay home and work on This Old Dawg.
I’ve made a lot of progress on the song. About all that’s left, really, are the vocals and lead breaks. I’d hoped to finish it this weekend, but obviously that’s not going to work out. But I need to get it done. I’m burning out on it. I’ve spent so much time on this song that I’d rather do just about anything else but work on it some more. At least until I’m in there working on it. Then I’m just as excited as ever.
Still, This Old Dawg is a great song. If it gets caught in everyone else’s head like it keeps wedging itself in mine, it’s going to make an impression. I have a really good feeling about the song. I think I made a good choice of a song to lead out with. I have no doubt that most of the people who hear This Old Dawg are going to be at least somewhat curious about what I’m going to do next. Isn’t that all any musician really wants?
