This is my great-grandfather. My branch of the Lovelace family goes back to him and stops, because we know next to nothing about him other than that he married Jane Goins (who later married a George M. Fortenberry). The children from Jane's first marriage to Richard grew up around the children from the second marriage with George, so George seems to have been a fixture. No one seems to know anything about Richard.

This is my most distant Chaney ancestor. I suspect that he came to North Carolina with a brother from Maryland, but I haven't been able to prove it. William married Elizabeth Hargett and has many descendants living in North and South Carolina, as well as a branch in Texas. I believe he fought in the Revolutionary War in the New Bern area.
