    Notes
    • Johan Georg Kalteisen was the original Coldiron ancestor to emigrate toAmerica and establish his family in America. He sailed to America fromRotterdam, the Netherlands, last from Crowes (on the Isle of Wight, offthe southern coast of England), on the ship Phoenix. Capt. John Masonlanded the Phoenix at Philadelphia, PA on 28 August 1750 with 339passengers aboard.

He was born in Goppingen, Wurttemberg, Germany 3 July 1730, the son ofJohan Georg Kalteisen and Catharina Shuollor. Until 1870 ourGerman-speaking immigrant ancestors thought of themselves as arriving inAmerica not from Germany but from the Rhineland, Bavaria, Wurttemburg,Switzerland, Austria, Prussia, or other states of the old Holy RomanEmpire.

It is believed that Johan Georg emigrated alone, since no other familymembers are found on the ship's passenger list. To this compiler'sknowledge, he is the only Kalteisen or Coldiron found on any shippassenger list to date.

Johan Georg married Catherine (surname unknown) in 1752 in Berks County,PA. It is believed they had nine children.

He is first listed on a tax roll in Berks County, PA in 1752 and his lasttax listing in Berks Co. is in 1765. By the time he had moved to NorthCarolina, Johan Georg had anglicized his name to George Coldiron.

George died in Rowan Co., North Carolina in January 1805. Cause of deathis unknown. His will is dated 10 November, 1803 and was proved in RowanCo. court on 5 Feb 1805. Occupation is listed a shoemaker.
