Eleanor Rigby

I’ve been tinkering with my old 4-track tapes of late, and wound up listening to a recording I’d made with an old friend of The Beatles’ Eleanor Rigby. It made quite an impression on my girlfriend, so I wound up porting it over to the computer and re-mixing it. I was kind of surprised to find out that the song held up pretty well on its own, without a lot of tweaking. All I did was used SoundSoap on each track to knock out some of the tape hiss and a BBE Sonic Maximizer to clean it up. It didn’t turn out so bad, so I figured I’d post it on my web site and MySpace for the hell of it. If nothing else, it’s a way to show some of the stuff I’ve been up to while I’m working on the new recordings.
As for the track itself, it was recorded around 1990, at the urging of my old friend, Danny “Red” Bridges (a most excellent guitar player). Danny’s singing lead vocals and playing all guitars. I’m singing backing vocals and playing bass and drums.
Don’t expect anything exceptionally amazing. It is what it is. It’s an almost twenty year old recording that was made on a cassette 4-track in my bedroom. Even putting on the computer and having a cornucopia of processing possibilities at my disposal, there’s only so much you can do. Of course, having said that, I’m quite proud of the overall sound. I’ve heard worse coming out of professional studios that people have paid a lot of money for.
For your listening pleasure … a piece of my distant past.
