Catdaddy Carolina Moonshine

I have to admit that I never much expected to find a new liquor that I like. My tastes are pretty jaded. But a friend recommended something called Catdaddy Carolina Moonshine. We were in North Carolina and had gone to the ABC store (that’s a liquor store in NC) looking for a cooler, and saw a bottle of this stuff. So we decided to try it. We bought a bottle and brought it back to Florida with us.
I opened it tonight, just out of curiosity. Wow! I was very impressed.
Okay, so maybe it’s a Carolina thing. I grew up occasionally getting my hands on some moonshine. Corn liquor. White lightnin’. Whatever you want to call it. Home made stuff. Some better than others (the last I had could have been used for paint thinner). So I was intrigued by the idea, even if I wasn’t expecting much.
But I loved it. This stuff reminds me of some of the best home made stuff I’ve drank through the years. It’s nice and smooth, with an interesting flavor. This is something you could drink over ice. In fact, it’d be criminal to cover it up with anything. And I find myself wanting to tell people about it.
I won’t rant on about this. I think the fact that I’m writing about it at all says a lot. I don’t recall ever writing anything about a particular brand of liquor. Since this stuff is only available in seven states (NC, TN, VA, WV, GA, MS, IL), I now have an extra reason to be glad to be going to North Carolina to visit Mama. But I don’t think I’ll mention that to Mama.
