On October 4th, 2009 at Quaker Steak & Lube in Clearwater, Florida, Katie Greene will be hosting the Cars For Pinks auto show, which will benefit the Susan G. Komen For The Cure foundation’s efforts to find a cure for breast cancer. The show will help Katie to raise the $2,300 she needs to register to participate in the Breast Cancer 3-Day event in Saint Petersburg, Florida, which takes place October 30 – November 1.
I admire Katie Greene. If you don’t know what the Breast Cancer 3-Day is, suffice it to say that Katie, and hundreds of others, will be paying $2,300 for the privilege of walking 60 miles over 3 days to raise public awareness of breast cancer. This comes from a woman who does not have breast cancer and is not related to anyone who has breast cancer. So Katie’s compassion is for other people over an issue which has not directly touched her life or those of her relatives. That is admirable, and speaks volumes about Katie’s character and compassion.
The Cars For Pinks event will take place in the parking lot of Quaker Steak & Lube in Clearwater, Florida (which is known for its weekly Wednesday Bike Night and Saturday Truck Night). At last report, around 150 cars had registered for the event, coming from as far away as California. There will be vendors there, selling related products and who will all donate portions of their profits to Katie’s fund. There will also be a live performance by my band, Systematic Chaos, and we’ve all agreed that any tips that are given to the band will be donated to Katie’s fund.

In addition to the vehicles which are participating in the competition judging, the Hernando County SWAT (Strong Women Always Together) team will display a 1987 Corvette which has been donated by team members Diane Thomas and her husband, Tim Thomas. This “Curevette” will be raffled at a later date, and is the linchpin of the team’s fundraising (all 17 women on the team, ages early 20s to late 60s, will accept the walk challenge if they can raise a minimum of $2,300 each to participate). Every penny of each $25 raffle ticket will go to the Komen fund. Tickets will remain on sale through October, when the drawing will be held in advance of the walk.
ENTERTAINMENT:
Entertainment will be provided by my band, Systematic Chaos. We play mostly Classic Rock, with some old R&B and thrown in for good measure. If you want to check us out, we play almost every Wednesday at Market On 7th in the old Ybor City section of Tampa, Florida. Or you can visit our web site for more information about the band members or to check out our upcoming gigs and projects. Systematic Chaos are;
♦ J. Michael Hester – guitars and vocals
♦ Wicasta Lovelace – bass and vocals
♦ Del Westcott – drums and vocals
Keep in mind that all tips made by the band during the event will be donated to Katie’s fund. So please tip the band generously!
