Back Into the Box

Headed back to Greensboro. Got a late start. Mama’s power was off this morning. The utility people are working on something in her apartment complex. I lingered as long as I could because I was worried about how Mama would fair in the heat with her asthma. But we both finally agreed that there was nothing I could do about it anyway.
Right now I’m in Gastonia. I’m dropping off a few things in the storage. The Strat and Alembic among them. I’d planned to take them with me on the truck, but things are going to be crazy enough for me today without wrangling a couple guitars as well. It’s all good. I’ll pick them up once I’ve settled back into a routine and made my peace with the new truck.
I don’t know how I feel about going back, really. It’s a mixture of relief and dread. I guess it’ll be comforting in a way to be back in the saddle. I’ve been driving so long now that being in motion is as normal to me as breathing. But I’m not going to pretend that driving a truck is what I want to be doing. It’s a means to an end. That’s really about all I can say about it.
I guess maybe I needed the break. It was nice to do nothing and have no schedule for awhile. But I feel like it’s time to get back to business. Time to make some progress.
